Blueberry Lemon Drop Cookies
There are some flavors that just belong together, and blueberry and lemon are pretty high on that list.
These Blueberry Lemon Drop Cookies are soft, buttery, and packed with bright lemon flavor, little bursts of blueberry, and just enough sweetness to make you reach for a second one before you’ve even finished the first.
And because apparently a blueberry lemon cookie wasn’t quite enough on its own, we’re giving these little darlin’s a beautiful blue makeover: a soft blue lemon frosting, blue circle sprinkles, and a generous dusting of sparkling blue sugar.
They’re cheerful, they’re a little over-the-top, and honestly, that’s exactly what I want in a cookie.
Why You’ll Love These Cookies
These aren’t your typical crisp, crunchy lemon cookies. They’re soft and tender in the middle, with slightly golden edges and juicy blueberries tucked throughout the dough.
The lemon keeps everything tasting fresh instead of overly sweet, while the blueberry adds just the right amount of fruity flavor.
Then comes the frosting.
A thin layer of blue lemon frosting on top gives these cookies that classic “lemon drop” sweetness, while the blue sprinkles and sparkling sugar make them feel like something you’d find in the prettiest little bakery case.
They’re perfect for a summer get-together, a baby shower, a birthday, a brunch, or really any occasion that could use a little more blue.
And let’s be honest—sometimes you don’t need an occasion at all.

How to Make Blueberry Lemon Drop Cookies
1. Start with the blueberries
Before you do anything else, toss your blueberries with a tablespoon of flour.
This little step helps keep the berries from sinking to the bottom of your cookies and also helps soak up some of that extra blueberry juice.
And yes, a few blueberries are probably going to burst while you’re mixing. That’s okay. In fact, I kind of like it. Those little streaks of blueberry throughout the cookie make them even prettier.
2. Cream the butter and sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Give it a good couple of minutes. This is one of those times when it’s worth not rushing.
For an extra punch of lemon flavor, rub your lemon zest directly into the granulated sugar with your fingers before adding it to the butter. It releases all those lovely lemon oils and makes your kitchen smell fantastic.
3. Add the lemon
Beat in the egg, vanilla, lemon zest, and fresh lemon juice.
The mixture might look a little loose at this point, but don’t worry. The flour will bring everything together.
4. Add the dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until everything comes together.
Don’t overmix the dough. We want soft cookies, not little blueberry hockey pucks.
5. Add the blueberries—and the blue
Gently fold in the floured blueberries.
Then add your blue food coloring a little at a time until you get the shade you’re after. I like a pretty, cheerful blue rather than anything too dark.
Remember that the cookies will lighten slightly as they bake.
6. Chill the dough
Pop the dough into the refrigerator for about 30–45 minutes.
Because we’re using fresh blueberries, this dough benefits from a little chill time. It makes it easier to scoop and helps the cookies hold their shape in the oven.
7. Bake
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Scoop the dough into approximately 1½ tablespoon portions and place them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, just until the edges are set and the centers still look slightly soft.
Don’t wait for them to look completely done in the oven. They’ll continue cooking as they cool.
Let them rest on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.
Making the Blue Lemon Frosting
Once your cookies are completely cool, it’s time for the fun part.
Whisk together the powdered sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, softened butter, and a tiny pinch of salt.
Add your blue food coloring and mix until you have a soft, pretty blue.
You want the frosting to be thick enough to sit on top of the cookie but still spread easily. If it’s too thick, add a tiny splash of lemon juice. If it’s too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
Spread a small layer over each cookie.
And then—and this is where I think they really become Biscuit Darlin’ cookies—sprinkle the tops with blue circle sprinkles and a generous pinch of blue sparkling sugar.
Don’t be shy with it.
A Few Tips From the Kitchen
Use fresh lemon juice.
This is one recipe where bottled lemon juice just isn’t going to give you the same bright, fresh flavor.
Don’t skip the lemon zest.
The juice gives you acidity, but the zest is where a lot of that wonderful lemon aroma lives.
Chill your dough.
Fresh blueberries add moisture to the dough, so that little bit of refrigerator time makes a big difference.
Don’t overbake.
The centers should look just a touch underdone when they come out. That’s how you get that soft, tender texture.
Let the cookies cool completely before frosting.
I know. Waiting is hard. But warm cookies will turn your beautiful blue frosting into a puddle.
Can I Use Frozen Blueberries?
You can, but I prefer fresh blueberries for these cookies.
If you use frozen, don’t thaw them first. Fold them into the dough while they’re still frozen, and expect the cookies to need an extra minute or two in the oven.
Can I Make These Without the Blue Coloring?
Absolutely.
The blue coloring is purely for fun and gives these cookies their signature look. Without it, you’ll have a naturally colored blueberry lemon cookie with a beautiful golden color.
If you’re going for the full Biscuit Darlin’ look, though, I say embrace the blue.
How to Store Blueberry Lemon Drop Cookies
Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
If you want to make the dough ahead of time, you can scoop the dough into individual portions and refrigerate them for up to 2 days before baking.
You can also freeze the unbaked cookie dough for longer storage. Just add a little extra baking time when baking from frozen.

And around here, we don’t judge.
We just make another batch.
Happy baking, darlin’.
